Joe Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded the Vera Institute of Justice a $158 million taxpayer-funded contract to help illegal immigrants avoid deportation.
The contract calls on the Vera Institute to continue providing anti-deportation legal services through March of 2002. Some of this funding was diverted from COVID-19 testing resources because, according to the Vera Institute, “every person facing deportation [is deserving] of legal representation regardless of … history with the criminal legal system.”
