Terms of endearment are interesting, aren’t they?
One of the (perhaps few) things Presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump had in common was their affinity for nicknames. Bush greeted Donald Rumsfeld as “Rummy,” Karl Rove as “Boy Genius,” and Chris Christie as “Big Boy.” And, who can forget President Trump calling out “Amtrak Joe,” “Lyin’ Hillary,” and “Crazy Bernie.”
Well, our current President jumped into the fray this week, calling the leader of Communist China, Xi Jinping, his
old friend.
Whaaaaaaaatttt?
Human rights groups have documented widespread human rights violations in China, marked by a systematic crackdown on dissent. The justice system remains plagued by unfair trials and torture and other ill-treatment in detention. China still classifies information on its extensive use of the death penalty as a state secret.
With friends like Xi, we don’t need enemies.
