In perhaps the least surprising development over the past several weeks, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (Democratic Socialist – NY), invited at least 200,000 Afghan refugees to relocate in neighborhoods and communities across the United States. Wasn’t that nice of her?
“I would say the rock bottom is 200,000, but I think it should be whatever is necessary,” said AOC. Read her comments here.
Let’s put her “rock bottom” number into context. If we were to make citizens of all 200,000 Afghan refugees in one location, it would represent a city about half the size of Arlington, Texas or Tulsa, Oklahoma, or Tampa, Florida. It would, immediately, become our nation’s 103rd most populist city.
The fact is, despite AOC’s “generous” offer, we don’t owe any Afghan refugees a new homeland. Our country is $28 trillion in debt, and even AOC can’t deny that relocating these refugees in our country would require the investment of at least several billion dollars in social services.
The brutal and sadistic Taliban regime took advantage of the Afghan government that refused to stand up and defend itself. The United Nations should do whatever they can to protect and provide for these refugees, but that relief should be provided in their homeland.
AOC’s “compassion” is nothing more than a shrewd and calculated step in her agenda to erase our American borders.
